The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday the 4th of August. Our F1 scribe gives us his top two bets for the race below.
We are just a few days away from the mid-season testing break with the teams set to go back into their garages for a month following the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The final race prior to the break is always a feisty one and it should be no different this coming weekend.
Hungarian Grand Prix
Sunday 4 August
Hungaroring
To Win Race Outright
Lewis Hamilton 1/1
Max Verstappen 9/4
Valtteri Bottas 11/2
Sebastian Vettel 8/1
Charles LeClerc 11/1
Pierre Gasly 40/1
Daniil Kvyatt 250/1
Previous Race
Poor weather made for a highly interesting race out in Germany with only 13 of the 20 car field finishing the race.
It was a poor weekend for Mercedes who were celebrating their 200th Formula 1 race as Lewis Hamilton endured an error-strewn Grand Prix which saw him finish in ninth-place while his teammate Valterri Bottas crashed out.
While Hamilton was having a nightmare, Red Bull's Max Verstappen was having an absolute field day bringing his car home across the line in first-place. He was followed by the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel while the final podium berth saw a complete surprise package with Daniil Kvyatt bringing his Toro Rosso home in third. Toro Rosso and parent company Red Bull actually enjoyed a great Grand Prix out in Germany with Kvyatt's teammate Alexander Albon finishing in sixth behind Lance Stroll (fourth) and Carlos Sainz (fifth).
Like Toro Rosso, fellow mid-table team Haas also took advantage of the number of crashes with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen claiming seventh and eighth respectively.
The Top Ten was rounded out by the Williams of Robert Kubica.
Track
The Hungaroring really is a feat of Soviet ingenuity with the track, which was built near the backend of the Cold War, boasting the fastest construction time of any F1 facility, taking little over eight months to build. The circuit is situated in the city of Mogyorod which is located some 18 kilometres outside of the Hungarian capital of Budapest.
The track consists of fourteen turns and covers a total race distance of 306.63 kilometres. Drivers will do battle over 70, 4.381km laps, which feature with the two DRS Zones situated between turns one and two, and the start/finish straight.
Last year’s race was won by Lewis Hamilton with Sebastian Vettel claiming second and former Ferrari man Kimi Raikonnen taking third place.
Like Germany, there is a lot of rain being forecast for Hungary at present (*article written on Tuesday the 30th of July) so we may well get another scrappy race.
Value Bet
Sebastian Vettel - Podium Finish - Yes @ 1/1
Seb produced a decent showing out in Germany to claim second place and put an end to the poor run of form he was enduring. The Ferrari ace has a decent record out in Hungary having won the 2015 and 2017 editions and claiming second place at last year's edition.
He offers decent value at even money to add to his podium list at the Hungaroring.
To Win Race Outright - Lewis Hamilton @ 1/1
The Mercedes main man will be looking to put last weekend's horror showing behind him and where better to do that than in Hungary where he has already won six races and is the most successful driver in history at the circuit.
