Durban - The Hollywoodbets Dolphins Premier League presented by Aucor will get underway on Saturday, 24 August 2019 for three weeks of exciting T20 cricket culminating in the final at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 8 September.
The auction took place at Kingsmead last Friday and it was Hollywoodbets Dolphins all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy who collected the largest price as he went to the defending champions the Hollywoodbets eThekwini Hurricanes.
The competition has been set up so that each side will have a smattering of Hollywoodbets Dolphins contracted players as well as those contracted to both Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal and Hollywoodbets KZN Inland.
There wasn't too much shuffling around of players with the core of most teams remaining unchanged for this year’s edition, however there are one or two players who are available that weren't part of the tournament in 2018.
Dolphins stars Senuran Muthusamy and Khaya Zondo were on SA 'A' tour of India last season and they will be involved in the competition this year while there is a welcome return to Durban for Cameron Delport.
Proteas T20 player and Dolphins stalwart Rob Frylinck has been picked up by the Gap Debt Solutions Pietermaritzburg Spurs for this year’s edition after playing for the AFFA Holdings Tugela Sharks in last year's debut edition of the competition.
"This competition is an opportunity for KZN Cricket to reach as far and wide around the province as we possibly can," CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom said at the auction.
"It gives an opportunity to school players and club players to play alongside and against our best Hollywoodbets Dolphins players and provincial stars.
"It gives club coaches and in-house coaches the chance to help raise the standard of cricket in the province and to make sure that everyone taking part knows that they are part of the pipeline."
There will be a number of strong sides in the competition once again and Strydom isn't sure who the pacesetter teams will be but he knows that there are certain attributes a team will need to be a strong contender in the tournament.
"You need to create a good team culture and that will be important if you want to succeed.
"We saw that last year with the eThekwini Hurricanes who were a tight-knit team and they played for each other," Strydom added.
The opening games of the competition will see the Synergy Umgeni Rhinos take on last years semi-finalists Aucor Durban Chiefs, while it will be a repeat of the 2018 final as the Hollywoodbets eThekwini Hurricanes take on the AFFA Holdings Tugela Sharks.
