ERIC SANDS
RAINBOW BRIDGE
An experienced horseman and man with a serious affection for the game trainer Eric Sands sounded quietly confident when commenting on Met Winner Rainbow Bridge:
“His prep has gone very well, maybe even better than his prep for the Met. He took his gallop well and also recorded a decent time.”
“The dangers on paper look to be Hawwaam and Do It Again but even a dark horse like Barahin could pop up to surprise this year. Rainbow Bridge is my only runner on the day.”
GLEN KOTZEN
EYES WIDE OPEN
Trainer Glen Kotzen will be on our panel to share his thoughts on an action-packed day full of racing. The out- right gentleman trained the in- credible Big City Life who won this race in 2009 and he was happy to share his comments with Winning Form’s racing analysts when sharing
“Eyes Wide Open’s prep has been onward and upward since his arrival in KZN.”
“He won the Greyville 1900 still needing the run. He thereafter featured in a slow run race in the Cup Trial where he was pulled out to go up and lead them, which isn’t his style of racing. He put up an incredible gallop, ears pricked and hard held throughout. We were delighted with his work.”
“Hawwaam and Do It Again are horses to respect but they are both shouldering quite a bit of weight. Twist Of Fate could be a big runner and Master Jay is possibly my best runner on the day.”
JOEY RAMSDEN
TWIST OF FATE AND FRESNAYE
The quirky Joey Ramsden wasn’t at all happy with his selection of barrier stall numbers but horses have won this race from wider barrier positions in
the past. He still seemed hopeful that his charges can perform adequately when saying:
“Both my horses prep have gone equally well, they took their gallops extremely well. Every horse in a handicap could be considered a dark horse and Twist Of Fate is my best runner on the day providing he has some luck from that outside draw”.
MATTHEW DE KOCK (for MIKE DE KOCK)
HAWWAAM AND BARAHIN
Assistant trainer Matthew De Kock aspires to follow in the footsteps of his father. He spoke on behalf of Mike De Kock about the stables two runners Hawwaam and Barahin in the big race. He reported:
“We are happy with the preparation of both runners and that they have come out of their July gallops well. I consider Rainbow Bridge and Do It Again the two horses we have to beat. The race-day is very competitive and it is difficult to single out one in particular”.
ROBBIE HILL
CAMPHORATUS
Ex-winner of this race as a rider Robbie Hill who trains as a team with his son was kind enough to share some information on their talented filly Camphoratus. The soft-spoken gentleman remarked:
“Her prep has gone very well she pulled up one hundred percent and she could be an ‘outsider’ in this year’s race. She caused an upset at Turffontein and there is no reason why she can’t repeat it.”
“My strong fancy to win the July is Rainbow Bridge though and Camphoratus is our only runner on the day.”
SEAN TARRY
LEGAL EAGLE, TILBURY FORT, RETURN FLIGHT AND ZILLZAAL
Top-notch trainer Sean Tarry has won this race twice before and his first-class string are set to rally the fancied runners, and things may not be so clear-cut. Mr Tarry is always happy to talk with Winning Form and he commented:
“All my runners have had a nice prep coming into this race and I thought they all galloped really well. Zillzaal will most likely run in the July consolation providing there is no scratching before race-day.”
“Dark horses in the race could include Double Mint or Eyes Wide Open and my best chance of finding the winners box could be in the Golden Horseshoe Grade 2 with Eden Roc, Putontheredlight and Rock The Globe, who are all very well within themselves.”
JUSTIN SNAITH
DO IT AGAIN, MADE TO CONQUER, DOUBLEMINT AND MIYABI GOLD
Trainer Justin Snaith defends his crown in a race where he has experienced the hype of a dead heat in this race with Dancers Daughter and a promotion to first with Legislate. Do It Again’s fantastic turn of foot allowed for him to get first run and he was always going to be difficult to peg back last year. Snaith Racing’s Facebook Page has over 7000 followers and it’s very transparent as it gives detailed updates on their horses. The top trainer commented that:
“Do it Again floated down the straight in his gallop and Richard Fourie is over-the-moon with his preparation, it could take more than top weight to stop this train.”
“Made to Conquer had a solid gallop and Mark Khan didn’t ask too much of him, He’s ready!”
“Doublemint caught the eye with his elastic stride at gallops, will relish the extra trip and is particularly well- weighted.”
“Miyabi Gold was held together nicely in her gallop as she has had two hard races coming into the July. She didn’t reveal much and will save her best for race-day.”
