Once again, the Premier League didn’t disappoint not a single bit this past weekend. Liverpool were up to their usual tricks, making it seven wins on the spin this term, while their Merseyside rivals, Everton, failed to halt Manchester City back as the champions cruised to a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park. Elsewhere, it was wins all round for Chelsea and Tottenham, while Manchester United and Arsenal cancelled each other out at Old Trafford.
Above the aforementioned quartet, though, lie Leicester City, looking to cement their place amongst the big guns after a 5-0 demolition over Newcastle United. Brendan Rodgers’ men face the ultimate test on Saturday as the former Liverpool boss visits Anfield this weekend to face his successor in Jurgen Klopp.
Saturday 5 October
Brighton 3/1
Draw 11/4
Tottenham 17/20
(13:30)
Graham Potter and Brighton & Hove Albion are starting to feel the heat now as the Terriers lie 16th in the Premier League, enduring a winless run of six games. Potter’s men are also winless at home this term, drawing two of the three games at the Amex. Tottenham have an identical record away from home, drawing two and losing the other one of their three ties on the road. In fact, Spurs’ last away victory came way back in January, although, Mauricio Pochettino’s men can take a few positives from getting something away to Manchester City and Arsenal this campaign. At 17/20, Spurs are tipped to edge it.
Burnley 39/20
Draw 22/10
Everton 15/10
(16:00)
Its been a season of disappointment so far for Everton. They went from being talked about as being the best from the rest, now, we can only wonder if they’ll even make the top half at this rate. The Toffees come off the back of their third consecutive defeat last weekend, losing at home to Manchester City, their fourth defeat in seven games. Burnley, on the other hand, have been far more impressive. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last three encounters, while they have also won two of their three home matches this season, losing just once, albeit against the European champions, Liverpool. This looks to be an Everton side there for the taking, back the home win.
Liverpool 9/20
Draw 37/10
Leicester City 11/2
(16:00)
In what promises to be the game of the weekend, Brendan Rodgers takes a trip down memory lane as he goes back to Anfield with his fearless Foxes, looking to inflict Jurgen Klopp’s first defeat of the campaign, or at least to get the Reds to drop points for the first time this season. Funny enough, these sides drew 1-1 in this fixture last season, a period where many pundits believe that Liverpool lost the league in. Klopp will know that a win here will put his side in a great chance of bettering Rodgers’ and his own league record of second, and finally get their name on the Premier League trophy. The Reds have been perfect all season, while Leicester City recorded their biggest Premier League win ever last weekend, smashing Newcastle United 5-0. I’d put my money on Liverpool winning and both teams finding the back of the net at 33/20.
Norwich 13/10
Draw 26/10
Aston Villa 19/10
(16:00)
Norwich have proved that the Premier League is a different beast in comparison to other leagues. After running away with the Championship title, Norwich have found the going tough, losing two matches in a row, as well as four in their last five games. At home, though, Norwich have won two of the three encounters played at Carrow Road, including that impressive 3-2 victory over Manchester City. Aston Villa find themselves in the relegation zone, winning just once in seven games since their return to the top flight. To make matters worse, Villa have lost all three of their away games this term. Get on the Canaries here at 13/10.
Watford 12/10
Draw 24/10
Sheffield United 47/20
(16:00)
Watford go into gameweek eight still in search of their first win of the campaign. As expected, the Hornets lie rooted to the foot of the table with just two draws from their opening seven matches, losing five times. Sheffield United have been arguably the most impressive side from the newly-promoted sides. On the road, they’re yet to lose a game, getting a point at Chelsea and all three at Everton. Chris Wilder has done a superb job with the Blades and I’m expecting them to get something out of this encounter as well. My money is on a share of the spoils.
West Ham 1/1
Draw 51/20
Crystal Palace 11/4
(18:30)
Saturday’s action in the Premier League concludes with an all-London affair as West Ham do battle with Crystal Palace in the capital. The Hammers are unbeaten in six outings since their opening day defeat, bearing in mind that was to Manchester City. In their last two home matches, Manuel Pellegrini’s mean beat Norwich and Manchester United, both by 2-0 scorelines. Crystal Palace have also had their impressive moments this season, winning 2-1 at Old Trafford to beat Manchester United. Sadly, that was their only two goals on the road, while they haven’t been able to get points in any of their other away ties. Take West Ham here at a profitable even money.
Sunday 6 October
Southampton 3/1
Draw 28/10
Chelsea 17/20
(15:00)
We move on to Sunday’s action in the Premier League where most of the division’s big guns do battle. Southampton host Chelsea as the Saints look for their first win of the season in front of their home crowd. Chelsea come off the back of their first home win under Frank Lampard, as well as keeping their first clean sheet. The Blues also have UEFA Champions League action in midweek, so this will be the first time that Chelsea come back from a trip out the country this season. Lampard seems to have learnt a lot since his first game in charge with the Blues expected to cope in dealing with more than one major competition. My money is on Chelsea at a decent price of 17/20.
Arsenal 9/20
Draw 4/1
Bournemouth 52/10
(15:00)
Arsenal will be looking to close the gap on the top two when they host Bournemouth this Sunday. The Gunners come off the back of a scrappy 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Monday night, while they also have UEFA Europa League action to contend with on Thursday, but with some of their key players returning from injury, Unai Emery will be able to make wholesale changes to keep his side fresh for this encounter. Bournemouth had to fight back to go 2-1 up against West Ham, but let their lead slip to draw 2-2 at home to the Hammers. The Emirates Stadium also hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Cherries, who lost 5-1 there last season. Put your money on the home win.
Manchester City 1/7
Draw 15/2
Wolves 18/1
(15:00)
Manchester City are on a mad run at the moment, scoring goals at will. The champions have netted a ridiculous tally of 27 goals in just seven matches. They’ll need to show their intent against a Wolves side who picked up their first win of the campaign, beating Watford 2-0 at the Molineux Stadium. This is a massive week for Nuno Espirito Santo and his charges as they travel to Turkey to face Besiktas on Thursday in a UEFA Europa League tie. City look to be in the mood in recent weeks, while Wolves could struggle juggling between playing in Europe and the league. My money is on City to Score In Both Halves at 11/20.
Newcastle 33/10
Draw 5/2
Manchester United 17/20
(17:30)
Newcastle United have been going through all sorts of problems this season and find themselves in an early relegation scramble. Steve Bruce’s men have won just once this term, while they’re also yet to claim a home victory at St. James’ Park. Manchester United are winless on the road this campaign and have just scored twice in three games away from Old Trafford. Since the opening day of the season, United have failed to score more than one goal in a game. They’ll also play this tie a few days after travelling to the Netherlands to face AZ Alkmaar in a UEFA Europa League contest. Under 2.5 Goals seem the way to go here at 7/10.
TREBLE @ 12/1
Burnley Win 39/20
Norwich Win 13/10
West Ham Win 1/1
