A struggling London Wasps outfit will play host to the Leicester Tigers on Saturday the 2nd of December.
The Wasps will be looking to sting the Tigers into submission in Round-10 of the Aviva Premiership. Last season's runners-up sit two-points below Leicester in sixth-position heading into the weekend and will know that a big win (along with a few other results going their way) could see them finish the weekend as high as third. The Tigers meanwhile, could leap into second with some luck of their own.
London Wasps v Leicester Tigers | Saturday 2 December | Ricoh Arena | 18:30
To Win (80 Mins)
Wasps 9/20 | Draw 18/1 | Leicester 37/20
Wasps
It's been a rather disappointing start to the new campaign for Wasps fans. Five-wins from nine is a seriously average return for the side that took the Premiership by storm last season before eventually succumbing in the finale. Three-wins from their last three in all competitions, however, has alleviated some of the pressure on Dai Young's shoulders, but he will realize that a big win at home this weekend could have a huge bearing on his team's league standings. With the players at his disposal - they are far more than capable of racking up a large enough score.
Indeed, the league is so tight at the moment that a bonus-point win here, as well as a Gloucester and Bath losses, could propel them to third-place on the standings. They would, of course, have to account for the 27-point difference between themselves and the latter side, but anything is possible in sport. And, let's face it, third-position isn't too bad a place to be going into the frantic end-of-year fixtures list...
Leicester
The Tigers have made massive strides this season and currently sit in fourth-place - above Gloucester on points difference. They head into this week's showdown at the Ricoh Arena off the back of a very disappointing 31-27 home loss to Francois Hougaard's Worcester and will realize that another could see them slip off the pace of the trendsetters. Wasps are always a tough prospect at home, but the Tigers, anchored by the fantastic Pat Cilliers at tighthead, will be going for the jugular.
Like Wasps, the Tigers stand to gain a hell of a lot with a Bonus Point-win this Saturday. Coupled with a Bath and Saracens loss, Leicester could find themselves in the unexpected position of second heading into the next round of fixtures... who'd ever have thought that at the beginning of the campaign?
Verdict: Wasps 9/20
Nearly too close to call, but back Wasps to take it at home. It should be one seriously tight contest, with penalties perhaps set to make the difference, but Youngs' boys should see out the win.
