First-half goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez saw a dominant Leicester beat Tottenham 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday.
Match Summary
The Foxes made the perfect start as Vardy hit a fantastic volley to beat Hugo Lloris before Mahrez doubled their advantage with a fine curling strike finding the top-left corner.
Harry Kane managed to pull a goal back for the visitors, who piled on the pressure in the closing stages, but Claude Puel's side held on for victory.
Full Report
The hosts started brightly and put early pressure on the north Londoners, who were desperate to get back to winning ways after a disappointing draw against West Brom at the weekend.
Their task was dealt an early blow, however, as Vardy opened the scoring in sensational fashion. Marc Albrighton played a good cross over the top for the England striker, who steered a first-time volley over Hugo Lloris into the back of the net.
Spurs looked to hit back almost immediately as Moussa Sissoko found himself one-one-one with Kasper Schmeichel, who managed to partially save the Frenchman's effort before Vicente Iborra cleared the ball off the line.
It was then end-to-end action as Danny Rose looked to pick out Kane, who skied his effort, before Leicester almost increased their lead when Wilfried Ndidi intercepted Serge Aurier's clearance and attempted an ambitious volley which flew wide of the post.
It was Mahrez who doubled the advantage for the Foxes as he capitalised on Spurs pushing too far forward with a good counter-attack. The Algerian raced down the right flank before cutting inside and curling a beautiful left-footed shot into the top-left corner of the goal.
With 15 minutes to go, Christian Eriksen should have pulled one back for Spurs after a cross from Heung-Min Son saw the ball ricochet directly at the Dane, who hit it wide off his right foot with just the keeper to beat.
The visitors were eventually given their lifeline through Kane as substitute Erik Lamela squeezed the ball through for the striker, who smashed his effort past Schmeichel into the roof of the net.
Fellow sub Fernando Llorente should have netted an equaliser after Aurier crossed well from the right and the Spaniard could only direct his volley over the crossbar.
Spurs had a penalty appeal turned down in extra time and shortly after, the final whistle sounded to bring roars from the home crowd.
